There’s an awesome dance club in Minneapolis. If you know the music scene here at all, you know what I’m talking about.
With roots as early as 1970, First Avenue has become a foundation of downtown night life. A big boost for the nightclub came from Prince and the video for Purple Rain. (Watch Corey Taylor perform Purple Rain at First Ave in tribute to Prince.) First Avenue is now part of a larger music empire in Minneapolis, but it will never lose the je ne sais quoi that makes First Avenue and 7th Street Entry a prime destination.
I like the variety of music you can experience in one night. Depending who’s playing, you can go to the First Ave main floor, the VIP Room, or 7th Street Entry freely (there are exceptions). Each section has it’s own atmosphere, and you can easily lose yourself in the crowd.
I’ve seen shows like Passion Pit and Citizen Cope at First Ave, and the venue didn’t disappoint. There’s not a bad “seat” in the house, though most shows are standing room only.
First Avenue is perfect for a date night, or a solo trip to see a show. If you like an artist, you’ll love seeing them at First Ave.
