The 11 movies below are some of my favories in this genre. Whenever this season or mood arrives, items from this list are my go-to comfort food. To qualify, a movie must be solidly in-genre and be highly rated (or purposefully bad). Either way, these are the cream of their respective crop. Still very charming! Funny what's still relevant (and what's not)
Crazy Rich Asians
Amazingly cute movie. Great cast, lots of great jokes, amazing sets and costumes. Really touching story about family. Great supporting cast too. Can't understate the representation aspect, either. Really a delight.
Always Be My Maybe
Very cute, if not a little cliched. Fun though! Great cast and jokes.
The Princess Diaries
Cute enough! Has definitely aged and has some problematic parts, but Hathaway is great and the rest of the cast is pretty good. Best friend is the worst though.
George of the Jungle
Cuter than I remember. Most of the gags are sort of dumb, but the narrator and guides were hilarious.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
The young cast was funny and everyone else was mostly a bore. Also tough because it was mostly b-list ABBA songs
Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Great woven plot. Some of the gender politics are a little outdated, but I liked the way the characters came together. Fun any funny.
He's Just Not That Into You
Great cast, pretty cheesy, some genuinely funny bits. Dated in interesting ways, but overall very thoughtful.
