Provides a perfect foil to the original novel. I liked Bean as a character explaining so much of his inner monologue and the political machinations around him. Some of the plotlines get wrapped up a little too quickly and cleanly, but it kept me engaged throughout. Like revisiting an old friend who's gotten a new haircut- familiar, yet treads new ground. A fascinatingly brutal world. Goes down with media like Lion King 1 1/2 to re-tread a beloved story effectively.

Once again, a re-read of one of my favorite books yields some new insights and comparisons to the real world. This time, I found myself thinking about the fairness of war and proportional response. There are also notes of "knowing an enemy is to love them". Great universe to revisit.

Something different jumps out at me every time I read this. This time, it was Demosthenes and his artificial fear-mongering. Still such a great story though.

Superb as always! I like how my perspective shifts each time I read it. I always feel like I respond differently as I age. This time around, I thought a lot about what it means to be an adult vs a kid and a bit about the power dynamics addressed in the story.

Read it through on one long road trip. Made me think a lot about how it's lonely at the top.
