My Favorite 🎃 Halloween Movies
The 20 movies below are some of my favories in this genre. Whenever this season or mood arrives, items from this list are my go-to comfort food. To qualify, a movie must be solidly in-genre and be highly rated (or purposefully bad). Either way, these are the cream of their respective crop.
Each movie is scored on my 4-point rating system. Please let me know if you'd like to nominate an addition!

Clue
One of my favorites. Irreverent, slapstick, and boasting a superb ensemble. There's something new to catch in every viewing!
Coco
Such an emotional movie. The music was great and the art and culture was such a joy. The story was good and really makes you care about the characters
The Cabin in the Woods
Probably my favorite spooky movie. A brilliant parody of the horror genre while embracing it wholeheartedly. Whip smart and unexpected at every turn, this delights with jokes, gore, and mystery.
Hocus Pocus
Still holds up, is cute tnough. Some bits age funny and there's definitely a 90's bullying vibe, but it's some light fun.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil
A strong entrant to "movies that are equal parts gory and hysterical". Strong leading performances and a great premise deliver a great movie that's full of heart.
Spirited Away
Scarier than I remembered, but a very charming story throughout.
Sleepy Hollow
Suitably Halloween-y. Great cast, decent plot, lots of beheadings.
Ready or Not
Absolute delight. Gross, tense, exciting, game-related. The works.
Werewolf by Night
Atmospheric, fun, tense in the right ways. A good watch.
The Addams Family
Creepy, yet extremely charming. Great performances bring new life to a classic family. Some absolutely knock out jokes, too.
Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island
Characters were more grating than I remember, story is a little doofy, but it is a good watch
Zombieland
Very stylized. Breakneck pace that could have used a little more breathing room. Pretty cute and a bit touching
Freaky
Honestly great! Pretty gory, but fun about it. Swapped actors did a great job.
The Babysitter
Light and stupid, but a fun take on a slasher movie. Writing felt like the weak point, but it was weirdly charming.
